December's Designer Edit
Fans of WHBM may know our head designer, Danielle Konotop - official title VP of Design for White House Black Market. But for those of you who are new to the brand she's more than a designer, she's a creative powerhouse. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil she earned a degree in visual communications and fine arts, then started her own business creating boutique collections in Bali, Indonesia.
After moving to the US she studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Following graduations, Danielle spent more than 15 years in the denim industry in LA as a head designer, creating collections, launching brands and start-ups where she established her profound expertise.
This is the first of a monthly series for you to learn more about Danielle, her inspiration and influences, as well as her personal picks.
Danielle's Must-Have Pieces for December
What does your typical New Year’s Eve look like?
“I like a quiet New Year’s Eve, a few friends, champagne, and laughter. But if I’m being honest, there have been several times I’ve gone to be before the clock struck twelve!”
Do you make any resolutions?
“I do make plans, but I don’t necessarily believe in making resolutions for January 1. If I want to change something in my life, I will do it when it makes sense. Not just because it’s a New Year, or new month, or week.”
“I like to wear something sparkly for the holidays, even if it’s entertaining in my own home. I love this long-sleeve surplice dress, it’s flattering, the sequins add that touch of glam we all want this time of year, and it’s comfy! Pair it will heels, but if you dare, try it with runners. That’s what I’ll wear with it!”
“I also live in jeans. And this pair of high-rise straight jeans with a sequin tuxedo stripe is a great way to add a dash of formalwear to denim.”
“Sometimes I just want hint of bling, this sequin one-shoulder bow bustier is perfect to add black pants or jeans.”
